Dough Hook was started by the owner Maria Guadalupe Alvarez. She’s been baking since she can remember. Helping her mom make and sell bread in Mexico, she took what she learned to the United States. Starting with small birthday cakes for her kids, her love for baking took off and the rest is history.
With over ten years of experience anything you name she’ll make it. She worked at one bakery prior to owning her own. Lupe will always be cracking a joke and is always excited to talk to any customers. With her range of baking she’s fallen in love with cheesecake who would’ve guessed?
When Dough Hook started one of Lupe’s supporters happened to be her older brother Javier, jumping right in on opening day with anything he could help with. Javier is now the head baker in Salem, with no prior baking experience he showed his strong ability to learn he proved anyone can learn to bake if they really wanted to.
Coming up with ideas like our giant donut and bringing the family’s concha recipe into the bakery. Making sure to preserve the authenticity of the concha recipe, he made sure no changes were made to it. He loves bonding over food and you know he loves you when he asks you what you want for lunch.
